Requirements

  • High School diploma / General Education Development (GED) diploma and at least four years of hands-on experience that included at least six of the following ten areas of expertise:
    • Fabrication of ancillary equipment by cutting, bending and shaping raw aluminum, steel and alloys into custom equipment mounts, heavy duty brackets, console racks, and structural supports
    • Operation of precision machinery such as CNC breaks, shears, waters, waterjets, and routers to exact engineering tolerances
    • Basic assembly and kitting (assimilation/kitting) by assuring that all custom metal kits such as screws, brackets, and fasteners, match configuration control requirements
    • Performing airframe sheet metal work by cutting skin panels, drilling high-tolerance rivet holes, and performing cold-working techniques to prevent stress fractures from external radomes or antenna mounts
    • Using NAVAIR engineering blueprints, Structural Repair Manuals, and other military directives
    • Installation of structural reinforcements onto air platforms by building and riveting “doublers” (reinforcing metal plates) inside the skin of an aircraft to support added weight and wind resistance of external C5ISR sensors and mounts
    • Modification of tactical and non-tactical vehicle shells by cutting and sealing openings for specialized power entry panels, exterior signal ports, and environmental control unit ducting
    • Shock and vibration isolation by installing heavy-gauge metal supports and brackets designed to withstand off-road tactical environments to prevent sensitive C5ISR rack equipment from breaking loose
    • Deburring and seam smoothing to ensure every fabricated edge is perfectly smooth to prevent chafing or injury to operators
    • Corrosion control and passivation by preparing and treating newly cut or welded metal parts with chemical procedures such as alodining or priming, to prevent against severe saltwater environments before final paint and installation
  •

Desired Skills

  • Welding experience (MIG, TIG, and/or Stick)
